Cupa Group earns EcoVadis gold medal rating for integration of sustainability and CSR principles into its production and business management processes

Cupa Group has earned gold medal rating from the EcoVadis agency for integration of sustainability and CSR principles into its production and business management processes. Achieving this rating, the most dependable in terms of sustainability internationally, means the company has arrived in the top 5% of records from the over 100,000 evaluated by EcoVadis worldwide.

Belén Díaz, the Cupa Group’s Integrated Quality and Environment System Manager, stressed that “this recognition from one of the prevalent environmental ratings rewards the commitment to best practices and the environment of the company’s people”. She adds that “the gold medal is of great value to us, because it comes from an independent rating agency and is based on the most demanding global sustainability standards”.

The EcoVadis rating achieved means that, apart from being among the 5% top rated companies in sustainability and CSR, Cupa Group positions itself among the 4% of top scoring organisations in the mining sector, which includes the stone, sand and clay extraction industry. It also represents an improvement over last year, as it was awarded the silver medal in 2021.

EcoVadis medals reflect sustainability management system quality and evaluate a wide range of variables. These are divided into four categories: environment, human rights, ethics and sustainable purchasing.

According to this rating from EcoVadis, the company has made environmental improvements in recent months, but it has also taken a big step forward in matters relating to supply chain control and, more specifically, in sustainable purchasing, where it achieved its greatest improvement.

Cross-cutting commitment to sustainability

EcoVadis’ recognition of Cupa Group in terms of sustainability and CSR gives an additional spur to the company’s active policies in this area. These seek to strengthen its commitment to care of the planet and transparent management with customers, suppliers and business partners, among other aspects.

It is noteworthy that Cupa Group has been part of the Global Compact Network since 2021 in the context of this commitment. The organisation is committed to the UN’s 10 internationally agreed principles regarding human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption in this way. Part of the accession process includes compliance with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), so the company commits to the 17 SDGs, as well as adopting the 10 principles of the global compact, to act responsibly promoting sustainability.

As an example of its commitment to sustainability, Cupa Group recently started work in the La Raniella area, in Benuza (León, Spain), the only underground mine in the region, which has become the country’s first circular slate mining project.
