Cupa Group appoints Eduardo Mera as Chief Executive Officer and Javier Fernández as Executive Chairman
Eduardo Mera and Javier Fernández.

Cupa Group is entering a new phase in its leadership with the appointment of Eduardo Mera as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Javier Fernández, who has served as CEO until now, will become Executive Chairman, a newly created position. Both appointments take effect today.

Eduardo Mera assumes executive leadership of Cupa Group after more than two decades with the business. He joined the group in 2000 as Finance Director of Ramilo, later becoming its Managing Director. In 2007, he was appointed Head of the Natural Stone division and, five years later, became Managing Director of the Slate business, where he consolidated the company’s position as the world’s leading natural slate producer while driving the modernisation of its operations through innovation and sustainability. In February 2025, he was appointed Managing Director of Cupa Group, taking responsibility for all business divisions.

Javier Fernández will assume the role of Executive Chairman after twenty-three years as Chief Executive Officer. The son of Aureliano Fernández, one of the company’s five founders, joined the group at the beginning of his professional career and was appointed CEO in 2003. Since then, he has led Cupa Group’s growth and international expansion, transforming a family-owned business into a multinational group that is the world leader in natural slate and a leading European player in natural stone.

The appointment completes a planned succession process and reinforces a governance model that clearly distinguishes executive management from strategic leadership. As Chief Executive Officer, Eduardo Mera will lead the execution of the group’s strategy and the day-to-day management of the business. As Executive Chairman, Javier Fernández will focus on the group’s long-term vision and on strategic and growth-related decisions. This new structure will ensure continuity in the delivery of Cupa Group’s strategic plan and support the group’s next phase of growth.
