What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
To me, International Women’s Day recognises the progression of women over the last several decades. It highlights the achievements of individuals regardless of gender and helps to create a working environment free of gender bias.
How has the role of women changed in your sector?
My first role in the construction sector was in the late 1980’s when women did the typing, made the tea, opened the mail and answered the phones. Men made all the decisions and women’s opinions were often not taken seriously. Over the years I have seen a signficant shift in the roles taken up by women, who now have the equal opportunities previously only afforded to men.
Have you ever faced difficulties in your career because you are a woman?
Yes, but not for a long time.

What would you consider to be your most significant contribution to Burton?
I like to think that I ensure the Transactional Finance Team runs efficiently and effecively. I provide a communication link between Finance and the wider business. Regardless of the issue, I will always try to find a solution.
Why would you recommend being part of the Cupa Group team to other women?
I would recommend working at Burton Roofing Merchants as I feel supported and listened to.
