CUPA GROUP BUYS THE ROZADAIS SLATE COMPANY It is the largest acquisition in its history and it now leads the slate sector in Spain The Cupa Group bought 100% of the “Pizarras Rozadais” company, based in north-west Spain, in May of last year and it is the largest acquisition in the Group’s history.
The company has a mine and a plant in Carballeda de Valdeorras (N-W Spain), an annual production of 10,000 tonnes and a workforce of 85 employees. Following the purchase of the mine it now becomes one of the 3 biggest in the Group’s possession along with Armadilla and Pizarras Las Arcas.
It is worth noting that Pizarras Rozadais had a turnover of some 5.5m euros last year, of which 95% were from its exports to France, Belgium and the UK.
The slate which is obtained from this mine is called Rozadais Cupa 17. This slate is a homogeneous dark grey rock with metallic rust-proof fine grain strips – it is mainly made up of sericite, clorite, sodic mica and clay. It is an easily exfoliated slate and it comes in 22cm x 16cm or 46cm x 30cm.
Given its extraordinary beauty, versatility, unalterability, impermeability and rustproof quality this slate is considered the perfect material for roofing construction. One of the main advantages of this slate is that it is really easy to use as a covering, making it useful for any type of roofing solution.
